Career education is a basic and increasingly relevant component of student
and adult learning. It is the CEAV's mission to support career practitioners
to improve and extend the quality of their programmes, promote career development
as a lifelong exercise and increase the likelihood of appropriate career
choices by students and adult learners.
The objects of the association are:
- to provide a central body to afford productive interaction with relevant
associations, parents, teachers, administrators of government departments,
employers, unions and the community generally, in all matters concerned
with career education.
- to provide a forum for dialogue between members and to establish co-operative
and harmonious relations with all bodies concerned with assisting people
to make career and transition choices.
- to promote the need for full-time careers teachers in schools and
the need for all teachers to understand and assist the aims of Career
Education.
- to provide relevant career and educational material and disseminate
this to Association members and to other interested parties.
- to sponsor lectures, seminars, discussion groups, etc. and disseminate
the resulting information from such events.
- to evaluate relevant legislation, Career Education courses, training
activities and proposals.
- to promote research in the area of career development.
- to provide an advisory service about career Education to members and
other enquirers and to offer recommendations and suggestions.
Links to national associations
The CEAV has links with equivalent associations interstate. It
is also part of CICA (Career Industry Council of Australia), a strategic alliance of Australian
professional associations involved in career education. It is also a member of VETnetwork, the national VET in schools practitioners professional association.
